While the NWSL shifts to championship weekend, Angel City FC have begun to shift their focus to the future. Offseason moves have begun for Los Angeles as the club today announced a contract extension for midfielder Hina Sugita. Her arrival via trade late in the season immediately improved the middle of the pitch, so it’s no surprise to see the club tie down Sugita longterm, with her previous contract ending in 2026. This new contract adds three more seasons to that contract, keeping her in Los Angeles through 2029.

“I’ve always tried to give my very best to soccer, and I’m so happy to have found a team that gives me the feeling that there is so much more to come,” said Sugita in a statement. “I am so grateful to all my teammates at Angel City who bring so much joy and excitement to every match. I will keep working hard every day to give back to my fans and supporters, and help Angel City to reach new heights.”
We are thrilled to share that Hina has signed a long term contract with Angel City,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons in a statement. “Hina is a world class talent and exactly the caliber of player and person we want at our club. She has fit in immediately from the moment she arrived and we know that she will continue to contribute to our goals of competing for trophies.”
Sugita entered the NWSL in 2022 with the Thorns, helping the club capture the 2022 NWSL Championship in her debut season. Over her three years in Portland, she recorded 13 goals and 14 assists, ranking sixth in club history for assists. Her NWSL career totals, both with Portland and ACFC, now include 86 appearances, 75 starts, and 6,624 minutes played.
While there were only a handful of matches left in the season when she arrived in Los Angeles, she started in all four of the remaining matches for Angel City FC, logging a full 90 minutes in each of those matches. With midfield being one of the areas ACFC needed help with the most, the arrival of Sugita was an injection of talent and a breath of fresh air. The midfielder’s experience and ability shone in her small sample size, but also gives fans a bright hope for the future with her in the middle of the park and partnering with her Japan Women’s National Team teammate, Jun Endo.
