Chicago Stars may be closer to being the worst team in the league, than the best, but that doesn’t make today’s opportunity for Angel City FC any less major. After hitting the ground running upon returning to action, having won their last two matches, conceding zero goals, Angel City now head to the midwest to take on the Stars. A chance to not only extend their win streak to three matches, but a major opportunity to do the one thing they desperately need most right now, establish some consistency. Just because Chicago are near the bottom of the table, doesn’t mean this will be easy. Nothing ever is in the NWSL.
Let’s run it!

The positive for Chicago, at least its looking less and less likely that they finish at the very bottom of the table this season. That’s about where it ends for the team that currently sits in 15th, having won two of their last five, dropping their last match against Boston Legacy. The one bright spot for Chicago this season has been new arrival Jordyn Huitema, who leads the team with four goals and currently stands as the focal point of their goal scoring. Interestingly, the Stars remain as the only team in the league yet to draw a match, winning four, but losing 10.
Angel City have come out the gates flying since returning to NWSL action. Not only have they won their first two matches since the summer break, but they have done so in clean sheet fashion, having yet to concede a goal. It would be classic Angel City to let that run get snapped at the hands of the only team in NWSL that has yet to hit double digit goals, but today is a chance for them to show they truly have found some consistency, with the goal of finishing the second half of the season even stronger. Maiara Niehues has scored in each of the last two matches, while forward SveindÃs Jónsdóttir continues to look good after her injury stint away. The biggest key for the team will be continuing to do what we rarely see them do, but something they have done as of late and that is crashing the box and following up shots. Finding second chance opportunities will be huge, especially against a team that have allowed the most goals so far this season.
