We are closing in on nearly two months since Angel City FC last won a match. Granted, it’s not like that stretch has seen losses, as they’ve only lost twice in that six match span, with the other four results ending in shared points. Still, it hasn’t been a good stretch for Los Angeles both in terms of results and the football being played between the lines. As they get healthier with players returning, on the road against an expansion side, now is the perfect time for Angel City to get back in the win column, with everything still to play for in the final stages of the regular season.

It’s been a typical year in the NWSL for an expansion side, with regards to Boston Legacy. While Chicago Stars firmly hold their place at the bottom of the table, Legacy are just one spot above them, with it looking increasingly likely there will be no inaugural year postseason for Boston. They come into today’s match having lost their last three matches, conceding a combined 10 goals in that span. They haven’t been a terrible side, often times staying close in matches and even holding a few big wins under their belts, but they haven’t been able to find consistency. The front partnership of forward Sammy Smith and Brazilian striker Amanda is the focal point of attack for this side, but with respect to them, it shouldn’t be more than what Sarah Gorden has proven she can handle, and with Savy getting even healthier, we hopefully see her return to a starting role.
This will be the first meeting between the two sides. Angel City themselves aren’t far removed from the expansion side life in the NWSL, now a team with consistent postseason aspirations. Those aspirations have fallen short recently, and as it stands now, their hopes are slowly slipping away. July 18th was the last time Angel City came away with all three points, that’s nearly two months, having played six matches coming into today. The team sit five points off the final playoff spot, with just 10 matches remaining. We have officially reached must-win territory, especially when you consider the opposition. The aforementioned Savy King should be close to fully fit for a start, while some good news as midfielder Maiara Niehues will be available for selection along with SveindÃs who should be close to fully fit as well. Unfortunately, Sydney Leroux is listed as Out with a thigh injury and midfielder Ary Borges will miss the match with an Excused Absence, which I’m sure has fans holding their breaths.
