Well, the offseason is officially underway for Angel City FC. With the NWSL Playoffs in full swing without the Los Angeles side, the time has come for the club to look toward the future as they start to build and prepare for next season. Yesterday, the team made an announcement that will go a very long way in helping the club’s long-term success. The club announced plans to relocate to a nine-acre site, still at Cal Lutheran University, where they will house their new performance center. The new location will house a full-sized training pitch, with enough space for another pitch around half the size, as well as 50,000 square feet of indoor space, making it the largest facility dedicated solely to an NWSL team, in the league.

“This is a major milestone in the history of our club,” said ACFC Co-Founder and President Julie Uhrman in a statement. “We are committed to building a championship-level experience for our staff and players. This new dedicated performance center, the largest in the NWSL, lives up to our ambitions, setting a new bar for what professional athletes need to become champions on the pitch and support their needs off the pitch.”
“From a sporting perspective, having a performance center that truly meets the unique needs of our athletes is absolutely critical,” said ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles Mangano in a statement. “Our players and staff have long awaited this training facility and will benefit greatly from brand-new equipment and custom spaces. These invaluable resources are essential for performing at the highest level, and a primary need to provide a standard of professional excellence for our athletes.”
The new facility won’t be built from the ground up, but rather is the former home to Super Bowl Champions, Los Angeles Rams, who recently relocated themselves to their new performance center in Woodland Hills. However, the new owners are putting forward what will amount to a multi-million dollar renovation that will overhaul the interior as well as the outdoor area, to outfit it specifically for Angel City. The club say that the new performance center will be ready ahead of the 2025 NWSL season. Choosing to renovate also allows Angel City to continue their partnership with Cal Lutheran University, which as served as the training location for the club since their inaugural season.
Just a few of the incredible amenities current and potential future players can look forward too include:
-
A 5,400-square-foot gym equipped with brand-new performance and sport science technology in addition to direct pitch access with roll-up doors
-
Custom lockers for players, coaches, staff, and a dedicated locker room for players under 18
-
New hydrotherapy area including cold and hot plunge pools and saunas
-
A private outdoor relaxation lounge
-
A 3,400-square-foot medical treatment and rehabilitation area, a private recovery room, private doctor’s office and medical staff offices
-
Elevated nutrition area for athletes to fuel with fresh, nutritious meals prepared onsite
-
Children’s playroom to support the families of our players and staff
-
Custom pre- and post-training nutrition and supplement area
-
A 930-square-foot team meeting and film room
-
A fit-for-purpose studio onsite for content capture and interviews
-
A custom boot wall More importantly, this will further help the club in their efforts to lure top talent to Los Angeles. The state of their, now former, facilities, was often named as the biggest factor in why some players chose to take their talents elsewhere. It was also something current players and even GM Angela Hucles Mangano herself talked about aiming to improve in the coming years. Well, now they have done just that and in a way that once again sends a statement and raises the bar for what standards need to be in regards to resources and what is provided to the players of the NWSL.
