Another bookend day for the week, another Angel City FC roster move. This time, it isn’t a trade, acquisition, or release, but rather a contract extension and one for yet another really promising young talent. Angel City FC announced today a contract extension for goalkeeper Angelina Anderson. The 23-year-old has committed to Los Angeles, adding on three more years to her current contract, keeping her at the club through 2028.

“Angelina is one of the most promising young goalkeepers in this league and we are excited that she has committed to stay with us for several more years,” said ACFC Sporting Director Mark Parsons in a statement. “It is critical that we continue to invest in talent on the field but also high character. Angelina is a special teammate for this group and we believe she can become an important leader.”
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to stay in LA for the next four years,” stated Anderson in a statement. “This team, this community, this place has become home for me. I’m excited for the future of this club and where we are headed. I’m truly honored to be a part of it. I couldn’t think of a better place to continue to grow as a person and as a player than Angel City alongside the best fans in the world.”

Anderson was drafted by the club in 2023, making several appearances her rookie season. She became the first rookie goalkeeper to start an NWSL Playoff match since 2013, and secured her first clean sheet in a 1-0 during her NWSL debut. It looked like she was set for a big 2024, however after a rocky start to the season, she spent the most of the remainder of the season watching from the bench. In just 10 NWSL appearances, Anderson has made 53 saves and despite the tough season, she was recently selected to join the USWNT for training camp this January.
With DiDi Haracic now in San Diego, and by the sounds of Mark Parsons in his statement, Angelina Anderson could be preparing for a big 2025. The young goalkeeper has already flashed the immense talent when given the opportunity, and when it comes to sports and young talents, the growing pains will be real, but giving them the grace to play through it is all part of development. If Anderson gets that grace, we could be looking at the next big name between the posts not just for Angel City, but perhaps USWNT as well.
