The turns do table, and do so quickly. After spending most of the offseason focused on re-signing talent and keeping the core of their playoff team intact, Angel City have dipped into the market to add some fresh blood to the squad. After recently trading for NWSL veteran Rocky Rodriguez, the team followed it up today with the announcement of another trade. The club announced a deal that sees young star forward Messiah Bright, come to Los Angels from the Orlando Pride. Angel City for their side of the deal will send the Pride $130k in intra-league transfer funds.

“I am so honored to have this opportunity to join ACFC and call LA my home,” said Bright in a statement. “This group looks so special and I can’t wait to be a part of it. I want to bring the very best version of myself and only push everyday to get better. I’m excited to touch the pitch soon and meet the team and technical staff. I can’t wait to bring the energy to the amazing fans at BMO Stadium…let the fun begin!”
“Messiah stepped into this league as a first time professional last season and demonstrated that she belonged,” said ACFC General Manager Angela Hucles Mangano. “She has an uncanny ability to find the back of the net and we’re looking forward to seeing her do that in the Angel City uniform.”
Bright, who was named a finalist for 2023 NWSL Rookie of the Year, led all NWSL rookies with seven goals, 6.2 expected goals and 29 successful take-ons in all competitions. In August 2023, she became the first player in NWSL history to earn both NWSL Player and Rookie of the Month honors in the same month after scoring three goals in four matches, including her first career brace against North Carolina Courage.
Bright is a player that Angel City definitely wanted in last year’s draft, and nearly saw her fall to them for one of their later picks. However, it was Orlando that swooped in just ahead of them to secure her services, and now, it feels like that wrong has been righted. Messiah is a young star with an incredibly high ceiling, and we have already seen what she can do. With the talent surrounding her, one thing is for sure, this Angel City attack should be potent, saucy, and fun as hell to watch throughout 2024.
