Angel City FC were in action on a rare Monday night after this match was rescheduled from its original date. NWSL is in its chaos era as every team in the league is still mathematically in the race for the postseason coming into this one. With a win, Angel City will be even on points with OL Reign for the sixth and final playoff spot, while a loss doesn’t eliminate them, but it does make the road a lot more tough.

The first half started off perfect for the home side. ACFC were able to find a lot of space, the passing was on point, and aside from some stout defense early on, Alyssa Thompson looked a real threat to find the opener. However, soccer is cruel, and often times the team that is most deserving finds odd ways to put themselves in a hole. This was no different as Orlando Pride got on the scoresheet first courtesy of a wild sequence. One that ended with Adriana setting off a rocket that got past Anderson for the early lead.

The Pride took the lead into the half, despite the home side controlling most of the half. Angel City might have been down a goal, but they should have went into break feeling good knowing they were just a finish away from being right back in it, and with how they have played, they would have plenty of opportunities for that moment. LA did well to respond with pressure and not letting their heads hang low, nearly finding the equalizer early on in the second half.
Despite putting on several close efforts in the final moments of the match, Angel City couldn’t find the equalizer before the final whistle. The result eliminates KC Current from playoff contention, but Angel City keep their hopes alive despite the loss at home. With just two matches left the team will need to win out and will need some help from around the league if they are to extend their season. The next match is this weekend, on the road, against the Houston Dash.

Good effort by the ladies as usual. What I don’t understand is how in arguably the biggest game of the season, Reilly, Endo, Hammond and Camberos start off on the bench. Then, when we need a goal, Emslie and Thompson get subbed off. I don’t think this was Tweed’s best effort as a coach.
Unfortunately it came when we needed better. Hopefully they can pull it out in the last games.
