Getting used to the MLS was a struggle for Hugo Lloris when he arrived last year. While he did settle in, for the first quarter of the season he was quite literally, the worst goalkeeper in the league. Having gone through the gauntlet, with a full offseason under his belt, Lloris came into this season a lot more comfortable. The LAFC keeper didn’t have the slow start to his 2025 campaign, and while the team as a whole wasn’t great, he was one of the few bright spots to start the year. Let’s take a look at the season had by the Frenchman between the posts.

As your number one goalkeeper should do, Lloris played a significant amount of the matches for LAFC this season. He made 45 appearances across all competitions in 2025, with 34 appearances on 34 starts in the MLS. There was only one match in league play where he didn’t see a full 90 minutes when starting, and it was the late September match against St. Louis City SC where he left after the first half with a knock. He logged 2835 minutes this season in MLS regular season play, tallied 72 saves with a 68% save rate throughout 2025, conceded 38 goals, and he was able to secure 12 clean sheets despite a defense in front of him that dealt with several key injuries throughout the season.

Despite the team not coming away with a trophy this season, Lloris played a big role in a lot of the team’s runs through some of the other competitions. Even in the disastrous showing for the team during the Club World Cup competition, Lloris was one of the very few bright spots for the club in his return to action against European competition. He had a handful of big saves in the Concacaf Champions Cup tournament, only taking a backseat during the team’s run in the Leagues Cup, which was expected. His performance in 2025 not only solidified his spot as GK1, but it made it an even easier decision for the team to offer him an extension as one of their first orders of business when the season concluded.
“From the start, I recognized the ambition of this club and the strong culture among players, staff, and supporters. I came here to compete, to keep playing at a high level and help this club fight for titles – and this environment is the right fit for me at this stage of my career” said Lloris when talking about why he decided to sign the extension and stick around in Los Angeles. Very few positions are as critical as goalkeeper, while you need to score goals to win matches, it also helps when you can keep the opponent from scoring too, and with Lloris between the posts the club have a player that is very good at that and comes with a wealth of experience.
